Twisted-Wonderland season one: did Heartslabyul earn its overblot before Savanaclaw?

Disney+ announced today that Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation gets its second season, Episode of Savanaclaw, on December 23, so let's dig into season one first. The Heartslabyul story builds to Riddle's overblot, and I think that fight is where the whole magic system finally clicks. Did the show set up the rules well enough to earn that payoff?
